Multi codes allow you to post multiple procedure codes at one time. This will save you tons of time when charting and treatment planning. This tutorial will walk you through how to setup and use multi codes in Dentrix.

How to Setup a New Multi Code in Dentrix

To add a new multi code to Dentrix:

  • Go to the Office Manager
  • Click Maintenance > then Practice Setup > then Multi Code Setup. This will open the Multi Code Setup box.
  • From here, click New. This will open the Multi Code Editor box.
  • Enter a description, a multi code (3 digits) and an abbreviated description.
  • You can enter an appointment type and procedure time, or just leave these as default.
  • To add a procedure, click Add
  • Add in all procedure codes that go together (example: crown, build up and seat crown)
  • Click OK at the bottom of the box to save.

*For a bridge, change “type” from standard to bridge. Dentrix will recognize pontic & abutment.

How to Use Multi Codes in Dentrix

Multi codes can be used for many procedures. This will save you a lot of time in treatment planning. Any procedure you do that has multiple codes or multiple appointments, can and should be set as a multi code.

Personally, I set a multi code for any procedure that has multiple steps. Even delivery appointments I set to be included.

I set my multi codes to a procedure button to make charting and treatment planning quick and easy. (Learn about procedure buttons here)

Below is a full list of the Dentrix multi codes I use most often.

Dentrix Multi Codes

These are the Dentrix multi codes I use in practice. I find it to be a pretty complete list of procedures completed in general dentistry. Codes that do not begin with “D” are not official CDT codes, they are in office “dummy” codes we have set up. We use these to denote that an appointment is needed but it doesn’t typically have a fee associated with it.
